A. Eating
B. Brushing teeth
Next, Chengdu Renhui Dental will introduce you to dietary precautions during orthodontics and oral cleaning methods during orthodontics
A. Eating
1. Food should be soft
It does not mean that food should be soft during correction, but in the first few days after wearing the braces and each follow-up visit, due to the force of the braces, you may feel that your teeth are sore, swollen, soft, weak to bite, a little painful to brush your teeth, and afraid to touch.
During the days of force adjustment, the soreness and discomfort are particularly obvious. You can try to eat some soft food such as porridge, oatmeal, noodles, etc. until the soreness gradually disappears.
2. Chew slowly
During the period of orthodontics, since the braces are located on the surface of the teeth, it is easy to bite yourself or loosen the braces during eating. It is recommended that no matter what food you eat, you should pay attention to chewing slowly.
In addition, you should also pay attention to chewing on both sides alternately, which will help improve the face shape and enhance the effect of orthodontics.
3. Picky food
Just as orthodontic treatment affects daily eating, some foods are not suitable during this period and need special attention.
1. Hard foods, such as nuts, hard candies, popcorn, hard biscuits, hard candies, shells and shrimp shells, etc., may cause the braces to loosen and deform, affecting orthodontic treatment.
2. Overly sticky foods, such as milk sugar, maltose and biscuits, may stick the braces and correction wires and cause displacement.
3. Overly large foods, such as apples, carrots and other large pieces of food, should be cut into small pieces before eating; chicken legs, bones, etc. should not be chewed directly with teeth, but the meat should be torn into pieces with tableware before eating.
4. Overly sweet foods, such as candies, biscuits, cola, juice, etc., which may cause tooth decay, should be avoided as much as possible. Fruits, vegetables, etc. can be chosen as substitutes.
B. Brushing teeth
During orthodontic treatment, oral hygiene is very important. Correct brushing can not only prevent the occurrence of other dental diseases, but also help to ensure the effect of correction. Therefore, it is important to know how to brush teeth during the correction period, and it is more important to be able to brush cleanly. How should people brush teeth during the correction period?
There is an important principle for orthodontic people to brush their teeth: brush the half-moon area between the bracket (the iron sheet stuck on the teeth) and the gums (near the red and white wavy line), because this is a place that is easily overlooked and prone to problems.
Non-orthodontic people all use the Bass brushing method recommended by the American Dental Association. But after wearing braces, this is sometimes not easy to do: when braces are corrected, the braces are attached with steel wires, which hinder the path of the toothbrush. You should use the "modified brushing method", and the brushing distance should not be too long. Put the toothbrush between the steel wire of the appliance and the gums, and brush 2 to 3 teeth each time.
Orthodontic period
step 1
Brush the upper teeth: The bristles of the toothbrush are tilted downward at 45 degrees, placed above the bracket and between the gums, and gently back and forth in a small horizontal range. Do not use a toothbrush with too hard bristles to avoid poking the gums and causing unnecessary wear.
step 2
Brush the occlusal surface and the lingual surface of the teeth: Because there is no orthodontic device to affect, you can brush your teeth as usual.
step 3
Interdental brush: After brushing your teeth above, you also need to use an interdental brush to clean the areas under the wire that cannot be brushed, and clean them thoroughly. You can also choose water floss here
In principle, you must brush your teeth after every meal, and of course you need to brush once before going to bed, so 4 times is the minimum requirement.
