Why Do We Use Orthodontic Bands To Correct Teeth?

Leave a message

Bands are used to protect and support teeth during correction to prevent tooth damage caused by tooth movement due to correction force. In the presence of periodontitis, gingivitis, caries, pulpitis or tooth allergy, the use of bands can reduce the stimulation of sensitive or damaged teeth.
1. Periodontitis
Due to the stimulation of inflammatory factors, alveolar bone absorption and gingival recession lead to symptoms such as loose teeth and difficulty chewing. Antibiotics such as amoxicillin can be used for anti-infection treatment.
2. Gingivitis
The inflammatory reaction caused by bacteria invading the gingival tissue may cause symptoms such as redness, swelling, and bleeding. Symptoms can be relieved by oral cleaning and mouthwash sterilization.
3. Caries
Caries is caused by the acidic substances in dental plaque corroding the tooth surface, which can lead to tooth demineralization and cavity formation. Filling is a common treatment method that restores tooth structure by removing the damaged part and filling it with materials.
4. Pulpitis
Inflammation occurs when the pulp is infected by bacteria or stimulated by trauma, causing severe pain and sensitivity. Root canal treatment is a common conservative procedure aimed at removing infected or necrotic pulp tissue.
5. Tooth sensitivity
Tooth sensitivity is caused by enamel wear or dentin exposure, and hot and cold foods can cause short but intense pain. Professional treatments such as fluoride paint or laser desensitization can enhance the stability of tooth tissue.
It is recommended to visit the dentist regularly to monitor changes in the condition, and X-rays should be performed if necessary to assess bone support. In daily life, patients should pay attention to maintaining good oral hygiene habits and avoid eating hard or cold foods to reduce mechanical and temperature stimulation to the teeth.
